Volunteer in Ocala

Studies have shown that volunteering strengthens communities, is good for your health and can even help you land a job! By volunteering just a few hours each month you can help us keep our programs running smoothly, our costs low and have a great time while doing it!

Volunteer Application

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities 

We're looking for volunteers for the following fun and exciting venues.

After School Homework Tutor

Are you good with school work? Spend an afternoon or two each week tutoring our kids in math, science and other academics at the E.D. Croskey Center and the Lilian Bryant Center!  Take part in making a difference in the lives of our youth. We will happily work with your schedule so you can mentor these children and help them become the best they can be.

Cultural Arts Program Internship

The City of Ocala has recently completed the 10- year Community Cultural Arts Plan to Improve the long-term sustainability of arts and culture in Ocala. The plan is managed through the Cultural Arts and Science Division team. Through a combination of learning experiences, work projects, and collaborations, interns become integral members of the Cultural Arts team. The Cultural Arts Program Internship will provide you with professional experience in arts administration, and programs including public art management, gallery management, event management, and non-profit integration. As an intern, you will learn aspects of public art coordination and installation, vendor/sponsor solicitation and facilitation, non-profit collaboration, art cataloging, exhibit preparation, grants research and reporting, event logistics and licensing, event and program promotions, social media management, entertainment and hospitality facilitation.

Discovery Center Exhibit Docent

Volunteer docents are asked to offer great customer service while answering visitors’ questions, sharing knowledge of the exhibit and striving to ensure that each visitor’s experience is enjoyable. Volunteers will help engage each visitor in their exploration of the exhibit, encouraging safe and meaningful play. Volunteer shifts are offered Tuesday – Saturday and vary in length ranging from 2 hour to 4 hour shifts.

Discovery Center Lab Tech

Volunteer lab techs are asked to offer great customer service while answering visitors’ questions and assist staff with providing hands-on experiences with interactive programs and educational opportunities.  The lab tech will also assist with caring for the center’s collection of snakes, reptiles and arachnids.  Volunteer shifts are offered Tuesday – Saturday and vary in length ranging from 2 hour to 4 hour shifts.

First Friday Art Walk Volunteer

Love the arts?First Friday Art Walk volunteers will assist with checking artists in at the event ensuring they are set-up at their assigned location, hand out monthly event maps, execute surveys and take notes on any artists requests.  FFAW happens downtown the first Friday of each month starting in September and concluding in May between the hours of 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Fort King National Historic Landmark and Visitor Center

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to assist us in the Heritage Center at least one 3.5 hour shift per month. Volunteers will assist park visitors in the by answering questions providing information and resource materials.  The center is housed in a lovely home situated on 36 lush acres. A beautiful place to spend a few hours! 

Fort King Heritage Garden Club

Come help us build this garden from the ground up! Volunteers at the Heritage Garden will help with planting, watering, weeding, making seed trays for the herb garden and more!  This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and make new friends.  This volunteer opportunity has a very flexible schedule!

8th Avenue Adult Activity Center Volunteer

BINGO! KARAOKE! REJUVENATE WITH THE ARTS! Volunteers at the 8th Avenue Adult Activity Center will assist staff with calling BINGO, art projects, administrative tasks and more.  This center offers many different exciting programs that volunteers can be a part of.  Volunteer shifts are available Monday – Friday in 2 hour shifts starting at noon.
